MBA at VGSoM is a beautiful and meaningful journey. It was such a life-enriching, satisfying
and rejuvenating time starting from the announcement of admission lists, the formation
of committees, a whole lot of extracurricular activities, recreation, sports, the quality of
teaching pedagogy and guidance of immensely qualified, respected faculty members.
Teachers’ support was no less than that of parents on campus. I feel so lucky and proud to
be VGSoM Alumni from the batch 2011-2013.

VGSoM is not an institution but an experience in itself. Initially, I was not very keen to join the MBA
program, especially due to the requirement of the sheer magnitude of devotion. I had been working
happily in one of the largest IT services firms in India for around three years. But then, the opportunity
to learn from some of the most experienced faculties in the country and the temptation of life at IIT
Kharagpur again drove my decision to join VGSoM. That decision is by far the most valuable decision I
have made in my life.
VGSoM gave me a perfect platform to hone my leadership skills and develop self-awareness. My two
years at VGSoM were extremely fruitful in terms of the learning experience, the knowledge I gained
here, and the friends I made. The exemplary faculty at VGSoM made sure that every course was rigorous
and interesting, and that helped me enjoy the academic journey here. The learning in the form of case
studies, classroom participation, and participation in various club activities have immensely helped me
develop the required managerial skills.
My transition from a Software Developer to Marketing Defence products like Aircraft and Helicopters
to Defence and Export customers would not have been possible without the learning and experience
from VGSoM. The VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur brand commands huge respect and admiration in PSUs and
Corporates. It is undeniably one of the best MBA institutes in India.

VGSoM offered me not just the best-in-class management education; that’s just the tip of the
iceberg. It pushed me to think beyond my limits. It also provided me with the opportunity to interact
and collaborate with the other departments of IIT, each one of which had something unique to offer
to an aspiring management graduate. Not to forget the vibrant campus life and the multicultural IIT
community, which taught me to become more inclusive, enhanced my ability to respect diversity
and exposed me to the unique idea that, in business, and not just in technology, there are multiple
versions of the truth.

My decision to study at VGSoM in 2006 was at a critical juncture when I dared to reject a Job Offer from IOCL
as a Graduate Engineer. I was working in SAIL as an Engineer in Plant operations, and I felt lucky to be getting
an offer for admission at VGSoM. The campus life at IIT KGP was invigorating with exposure to technology
fest, a great library- open 24X7, and the computer laboratories. Professors at VGSoM were awesome, teaching
subjects like Statistics, Operation Management, Networking, Corporate Law & Ethics, Financial management,
etc., with ease. Life at VGSoM taught me many important life lessons apart from Business administration. The
MBA program gave me a holistic view of business operations. Summer Placement at VGSoM was excellent in
terms of the quality of work & packages. Final Placements at VGSoM are among the best in the country and
comparable with the bests, which are reflected in its B -School ranking. The environment is refreshing with
a focus on pollution-free modes of transport like cycling, which is unique. Overall, this is a good institute for
upcoming technocrats where you get a lot of exposure to technology as well as management.

Joining VGSoM was a life-changing decision for me. The holistic experience which I got during my two years
at VGSoM helped me build a foundation for a professional career and, more importantly, shape my persona for
the better.
The curriculum is exhaustive and mostly based on Harvard case studies & in-class discussions, which helped
me understand business problems from multiple horizons and develop analytical capabilities. The flexibility to
choose from a wide range of courses helped me experiment with multiple domains & broaden my knowledge
base. During the two years, - apart from Summer Internship, I also got opportunities to pursue multiple
internships, which helped me work on real-time business challenges and identify my area of interest. Besides,
the regular industry connect sessions organized by various clubs helped me connect with industry leaders &
learn from their experiences. The campus is vibrant and provides ample opportunities for networking, pursuing
hobbies, sports, and the opportunity to meet and interact with many dignitaries & learn from their experiences
(to name a few - Sunder Pichai & Vinod Gupta during my time at campus). This is definitely one of the best
institutions in the country, which will shape you comprehensively. Apart from academics, make sure to cash in
most of the other opportunities that you get.

My time spent at VGSoM during my MBA can be summarized as a much-needed orientation process that helped
me align my capabilities with my professional goals. Prior to engaging in the program, I worked as an engineer
and aspired to understand the world of business and how organizations function and engage in decision-making.
VGSoM as a school always brought in that techno-managerial aspect which I believe is critical to transitioning
from an engineer to a management graduate. The school offers strong infrastructure leveraging its IIT heritage,
coupled with experienced faculty, both of which can be leveraged by students to the best of their interests when
learning and applying their understanding towards problem-solving. I was also able to learn profusely from case-
based solutions, which brought out many nuances and helped me make sense of several industry verticals and
the way they function. Last but not least, the school has a strong framework in terms of administration which is
led by both its faculty and students, aiming to constantly improve the learning experience as well as enabling
students to find the right career opportunities once they graduate from the program.
