General Queries

Q1. What is the degree offered by VGSoM? Do we have to choose a specialization in second year or is it a general MBA?

It is a general MBA program. You have the option of choosing electives from Vinod Gupta School of Management as well as other departments/schools/centers in IIT Kharagpur based on your interest.

Q2. Is there any Scholarship scheme running for the students?

There is no scholarship scheme as such. For the latest information, the Academic Section (https://www.iitkgp.ac.in/department/PG/staff) of the IIT Kharagpur can be contacted.

Q3. How much is the total fee amount?

 Fees for the MBA programme of four semesters cover tuition fee, international immersion, room rent, teaching materials, library and computer facilities, hostel accommodation, mess charges and other institutional fee. Please refer the link for detailed information.

Q4. What is the proposed intake for the Admission Calendar 2024-26?

The total number of seats this year is 200.

Q5. How is the faculty: student ratio at VGSOM?

There are 23 members of "Core Faculty" for about 230 students which works out to a faculty: student ratio of about 1:10. If one includes the visiting faculty, the ratio will be better.

Q6. What is the withdrawal and refund policy at VGSoM?

The withdrawal and refund will be in accordance and compliance with the rules of IIT Kharagpur, which will be notified in due time.

Q7. Does the institute help in getting loan for fees?

No, the Institute does not as such help in getting a loan for fee payment. Students can choose to avail loan from any bank that they deem suitable. The campus has branches of SBI, PNB, and Syndicate Bank.

Q8. Does VGSoM have a student immersion programme?

Yes, VGSoM has an immersion programme that is available to all students. You can find more details at the following: https://som.iitkgp.ac.in/smu.php

Q9. Does VGSoM offer any micro specialization?

Yes, VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur offers a micro specialization in Business Analytics in addition to its regular MBA program. This micro specialization is designed to help students meet industry requirements, particularly in the analytical field. This micro specialization will have limited seats and can be chosen subject to a minimum set of criteria.

Q1. What are the eligibility criteria?

Q2. Is separate EWS category included during admission at VGSoM?

VGSoM has included EWS category as per Government of India regulations and follows the same for its admission process.

Any changes to the same will be updated and notified on the website.

Q3. What all documents do you need for the application process?

You do not need to send any hard copy to IIT Kharagpur. You would need to upload the following documents while filling up the application form: -

  1. Scanned copy of any age proof (For example – Voter ID, Passport etc.)
  2. Scanned copy of caste certificate for reserved categories
  3. Scanned copies of mark sheets of 10th std (secondary/matriculation level), 12th std (higher secondary/intermediate level) & graduation certificate. If you are in the final year of graduation degree program, please upload the provisional certificate.
  1. Proof of work experience. If you have work experience certificate from your employer(s), upload it. Else, upload the joining letter and the first & the last pay- slips.
  1. Copy of your CAT 2023 scorecard

Remember to take a printout of the payment confirmation page for your record.

Q4. If someone has filled the CAT form as a General candidate and belongs to OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PWD, can they apply to VGSoM MBA Program as OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PWD candidate?

Candidates can apply as OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PWD for the VGSoM MBA Program if they have valid supporting documents.

Q5. If there is a mistake made during the filling of the admission form, is there a correction window for the same?

The time window for correction of application form by candidates is as follows: Portal Opens: 6th February 2024 (tentative) Portal Closes: 8th February 2024 (tentative)

Q6. What is the registration fee and what is the time given to submit the same?

The registration fee for the online application is Rs. 1600 for General/OBC/EWS category, and Rs. 800 for SC/ST/PWD candidates. The last date for the submission of the fee will be the same as the last date for the online application, which is subject to change.

Q7. How much time will it take for the fee payment to reflect on application portal?

It might take up to 2 hours after successful payment. If the issue still persists, candidates can drop an email to admissions@vgsom.iitkgp.ac.in

Q8. Do 5 Year Dual degree (BTech-MTech/ BTech-MS) candidates gain additional marks in the application rating?

No.

Q9. If a candidate is currently working, till what day is work experience considered?

Work experience for candidates currently working will be considered up to the 5th of February 2024. For candidates not currently working, it will be considered till their last working day or 5th of February 2024, whichever comes first.

 

PI & Final selection related queries

Q1. Are calls for PI given based on profile or only based on CAT scores?

Calls would be given on the basis of the CAT score and the overall application rating (AR). Application rating comprises various parameters like prior work-experience and past academic performances.

Q2. My extra-curricular achievements are not outstanding. Do I stand a chance?

Extra-curricular and personal achievements are not considered during initial shortlisting for PI. But these may be considered by the interview panel in rating the applicant. While these achievements are always appreciated, absence of these would not deter the chances of admissions as such.

Q3. Will my request for rescheduling of PI slot be entertained?

Requests for rescheduling of PI will not be entertained in any case.

Q4. How does the final selection take place?

Candidates for admission are selected from among the candidates who attend the PI, with 40% weightage given to PI, 20 % to Application Rating (AR) and 40% to CAT score at the final stage of selection to arrive at the Aggregate Score. Selection at this stage will strictly be based on ranks on the Aggregate Score.

Q5. Are there any separate marks for Gender Diversity for admission at VGSoM?

Overall CAT 2023 scaled score out of 20, application rating (AR) out of 20 and Gender Diversity Factor (GDF) will be added to get the score for short-listing of the candidates to be called for PI. Four marks will be given to all female candidates for GDF during short-listing for the PI. In the second stage, Ten marks will be given to all female candidates for GDF.

Q6. When is the personal interview process scheduled for this year?

The PI process is scheduled across three schedules :

Q7. What is the mode of the interview and when will I be informed of the date of the interview?

The interview will be conducted online, and the shortlisted candidates for the PI process along with the dates will be informed on or before the 15th of February.
